Cratus – our world is local… and it’s expanding

The job

Are you passionate about housing, communities, politics and local government? We’re looking for an experienced, intelligent and politically astute individual to run our Southern Home Counties planning communications practice.

You will lead a small, highly performing team to provide a great quality service and will have the opportunity to work alongside some of the best operators in the sector, reporting directly to the MD of Planning Communications and Cratus CEO.

You will oversee political and community engagement strategies across our client base in Surrey, Sussex, Kent and everywhere in between, nurturing an established network of relationships. Your commercial acumen will give you the initiative to manage new business, track leads and bring in new projects while your natural leadership skills will mean your team feels supported to do their very best.

About us

Our world is local. Everyone at Cratus shares a passion for politics and a commitment to community which underpins all of our activity, from the clients we work with to our personal interests. We support organisations who would like to engage and work with the public sector and the communities it serves.

Our dedicated teams work from coast to coast on projects ranging from reviewing council services and providing PR support, to supporting developers with planning applications, and building communities on brand new garden village developments.

Our enviable team of Non-Executive Directors and Associates is made up of some of the biggest names in the planning and development world, and offer a huge range of additional expertise to be drawn upon.

Who’s right for the job?

With a friendly and outgoing personality, you will bring creative ideas to help shape your existing team, build our ever-growing client base and influence the growth of Cratus as a company. You should have good commercial acumen and be passionate, enthusiastic and constantly striving for innovative solutions.

On any given day, you will be delivering a host of projects for a range of clients, managing your team, and running business development. You will be engaging with clients, politicians, residents and community groups – and you will need to be able to develop and maintain positive relationships with each individual, providing a superb service at all times.

You must be well-organised, comfortable working with others and have the ability to think fast, problem solve and give high quality advice. You will be responsible for overseeing all project work for clients in the Southern Home Counties region, whether it is being delivered by your team members, or one of our Non-Executives or Associates.

More than a third of your time will be spent on developing your network, finding new business leads and organising / holding client events (physical and virtual) with our Business Development Director and marketing team.

You will be adept at managing workloads and prioritising tasks for yourself and your team, putting together and delivering communication and engagement strategies for your clients, and coaching your team to reach its fullest potential. As the team grows, you will be responsible for recruiting new team members, as well as building Cratus’ reputation across the industry.

You will be skilled at writing for diverse audiences and have the eye for detail needed to edit and proof-read for colleagues and clients alike.

We engage with politicians and local communities at a time and place that suits them, so we do work some evenings and weekends – but we offer extensive flexible working opportunities in return and make sure we get together regularly as a team to celebrate our successes.
