This week we were delighted to host ‘Cratus in Conversation with Lord Heseltine’. One of the leading British political figures of the late 20th century, Lord Heseltine served as an MP from 1966 to 2001. Since 2001, Heseltine has served as a life peer in the House of Lords.
Lord Heseltine was joined by: Nick Kilby, Cratus Chief Executive; Heather Jameson, Editor of the MJ; Chris Blackhurst, Journalist and Mike Emmerich, Founding Director of Metro Dynamics.
The main takeaways? Levelling up needs strong leadership and decision-making, real powers should be given to metro mayors and to lots of new unitaries, metro mayors should ‘make more trouble for the Prime Minister’ to deliver their plans, there should be a much more integrated approach across government departments and a strong collective voice from local government.
