Colin has used the skills he gained during his working and political life to work with neighbouring authorities guiding the outcomes towards greener and more inclusive outcomes, whilst at the same time, working with boroughs and districts across the region, overcoming political differences and challenges to deliver outcomes for residents.
His skills include listening and communicating, his natural enthusiasm is infectious, his leadership style is inclusive and takes people with him towards a mutually agreed goal.
Colin has been an elected member since 2013 when he was elected as a Surrey County Councillor (SCC) Colin entered the cabinet at SCC in 2015 taking on the portfolio for highways and in 2017 he became the lead member for place.
In late 2018 he became Deputy Leader and took on the larger role of infrastructure and transport and at the same time he joined the two LEPS that cover Surrey as a director, and he also became a Board Member of Transport for the Southeast to cover a strategic role looking at infrastructure across the region and its impacts on Surrey.
In 2014 he was elected as a borough councillor at Woking borough council (WBC). Within a year of becoming a Borough Councillor he was elected as Deputy Leader and took on the portfolio for Housing. In 2016 he became a director of Thameswey Ltd, an arm’s length company of WBC set up to deliver affordable housing within the borough. In 2017 he stepped down as Deputy Leader because of the increasing workload at the county council but stayed on the executive now taking on Leisure and culture and because of his area of work at SCC he also took on local infrastructure and transport.
Colin has spent most of his working life in the motor trade working his way up from an apprentice mechanic through reception and departmental management in both sales and aftersales through to Dealer Principal. He also attended many sales and customer service training courses in that time and in his later career he organised and implemented training within the network.
