Paul Smith is widely respected within local government and the housing sector. A Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute of Housing, Paul has over 30 years’ experience in housing. He is currently Group Chief Executive at Elim Housing Group.
Paul was formerly the Cabinet Member for Housing at Bristol City Council, and Member for Central Ward. His other previous roles include Executive Director of Placeshapers, Regional Manager at the National Housing Federation, Chief Executive of Housing Potential UK, and senior positions at two housing associations. Paul also sits on the Housing Ombudsman Advisory Panel and is a member of the board of Connexus Housing Group.
In his role as Cabinet Member for Housing at Bristol City Council, Paul had responsibility for delivering the Mayor’s ambitious housing strategy to deliver 2,000 new homes per annum. Alongside radically increasing house building in the city, Paul also over-saw the Council’s stock of 27,500 homes, and spearheaded Bristol’s drive to prevent and reduce homelessness.
