Episode 4 – Nature

01.04.21

On March 29th we brought you the fourth episode in the Cratus and Stantec webinar series, ‘What has the environment ever done for us?’

Now available on demand, this episode revolved around the theme of nature, with special guest speaker; friend of COP26 and Professor of Biodiversity at the University of Oxford, Nathalie Seddon.

Nathalie was joined by our regular panel: Nick Kilby and Vikki Slade from Cratus, as well as Keith Mitchell, Jonathan Riggall, and Jenny Hughes from Stantec.

Alongside our nominations of headline of the month, climate hypocrite of the month, and climate hero of the month, Nathalie provided a compelling insight into what nature-based solutions are, how they can be used to combat the climate crisis, and how they are being misused by corporations as a form of greenwashing – causing more harm to the environment than good.

The event was timely, coming just days after the government announced that it would be scrapping the Green Homes Grant. This news was put into context by our panelists when it was discovered that there were more than 123,000 applications for the grant by the end of February, but only 28,000 vouchers had been issued and only 5,800 energy efficiency measures had been installed.

Our next webinar will be looking at the role of the transport sector in the UK’s ambition to reach net-zero, where we will be joined by James Birch, Managing Director of Local Authorities at Kier Group, with another guest to be announced shortly.
