Nigel Farage launched his London local election campaign in Croydon last month and was met with boos on the street. Don’t let that fool you.
Our brand-new polling, conducted by Focaldata across four key Outer London boroughs, tells a very different story. And it’s one that should make every party (not just the Conservatives) seriously uncomfortable.
Outer London was once defined by stable Conservative loyalties and predictable two-party politics. That era is over.
Across Bexley, Bromley, Havering, and Hillingdon, Reform UK emerges as a major political force. But this isn’t simply a Conservative collapse, it’s a full fragmentation of the political landscape. Labour is down, the Greens are surging without even campaigning, and Independents are going to be crucial kingmakers. And one in eight voters remains undecided with weeks still to go.
This is where it gets interesting. While the headline numbers point to a Reform UK surge, dig into the individual boroughs and the picture becomes far more complex.
One borough looks like a Reform gain. Another is defying the national tide with the Conservatives looking comfortable. A third is shaping up to be the most unexpected result of the night, and its not Reform UK that’s benefiting.
Then there’s the question of what happens when no party wins outright. Smaller parties and local independents may end up holding the balance of power in more than one council chamber on the morning of 8th May. Who those kingmakers are, and how they’ll use their leverage, is something everybody operating in Outer London should be paying close attention to.
Local elections have direct consequences for planning decisions, housing policy, procurement, and public services. A shift in administration, or a hung council, can change the environment for projects overnight.
Understanding where power is moving, and why, is not just a matter of political curiosity. It’s a practical business consideration.
We launched the findings live today with a panel of our London experts. The full report includes detailed borough-by-borough analysis, the data behind the headlines, and what the results could mean in practice for May 2026 and beyond.
